Welcome to the Welcome Center

The Welcome Center is a central location intended to inform, refer and support new immigrants in the community.

• Hispanic population more than doubled between 1990 and 2000
• More than 30% of the population is Hispanic
• Puerto Ricans are the largest subgroup at approximately 70 to 80%
• Willimantic ranks 3rd in the state for highest percent of this population
• New immigrant groups are joining the community all the time with the world’s largest casino close by

Mission:

To provide newcomers and existing community members in Willimantic and surrounding towns with streamlined access to needed social, legal and educational services, and access to cultural and community resources through a collaborative network of local community agencies.

Services:

• Provide for the educational needs of children
• Advocate for families
• Ensure that families have access to interpretation when necessary
• Empower the community to advocate for themselves
• Inform families of extracurricular enrichment opportunities available for them and their children
